About Antoine Knight
Antoine Knight knew early in life, one thing. He would never settle for being ordinary and he emerged as one of the most extraordinary musicians of our time. Antione says “you can never settle for being mediocracy you must be extraordinary!!” Antoine’s career took off after sharing the stage with greats such as Jennifer Holiday, Yolanda Adams, Angela Bofill, The late Vesta, Miki Howard, Najee, Marion Meadow, Kim Waters, Anthony Hamilton Ronnie Laws, Steve Oliver and Alex Bugnon. Just to name a few. The late Grover Washington Jr. and Ronnie Laws were the forefathers of the modern Jazz sound but Antoine Knight has taken that sound to a new level of perfection. Does Antoine delivers on those lofty ambitions? Antoine, does this big time with an exciting mix of old school in the pocket soul/funk, sensuous romantic expressions and colorful jazz improvisations. His music proves that he’s Comfortable in both traditional and smooth jazz worlds, and can slide over effortlessly between gospel and jazz. But, on the other hand, there’s no need to pigeonhole him into any genre. He can clearly do it all!” - Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide, Jazz When Knight steps on stage and he fills the room with excitement. Many musician wait to feel the energy from the audience, but not Antione, he brings the energy with him and the audience has no other choice but to follow his lead. Antoine first aired his debut Cd “In the Red” in 2004 these types of performances and his phenomenal studio creation landed Antione on the Smooth Jazz Charts with 2nd amazing cd “Walk da Walk” which debuted in 2010. The musician creates an inspiring yet melodic chronicle that serves as an engaging testimony of where he has been in his lifetime. Antoine Knight was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, Antoine began playing Alto saxophone at the of age 11 and enjoyed a childhood filled with incredible sounds such as Jr. Walker and the all-stars, his Dad played John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley albums continuously in the home. “For me, my music, is a journey of my testimony that will never end. I’ve been tested, tried fought the spiritual battle and emerged stronger, focused and ready for the next chapter of this wonderful journey called life. We all have a journey and a testimony, each one different, my journey happens to be conveyed to God and the world through my music”. While climbed his way to the top Antoine Knight remained humbled, although very busy Antoine somehow manages to make it to church on Sunday where he is joins his church family as part of the band.
Saxophonist Antoine Knight returns on his much-anticipated second CD, Walk Da Walk, a project at times smooth, sometimes sassy, frequently funky and always engaging. Knight, whose other career is with the First U.S. Army Division, keeps listeners engaged with an in-the-pocket groove where the unexpected comes as a pleasant surprise – just listen to the wailing guitar solos on the cover track and on Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin’.” Knight shows his chops on the swinging, traditional jazz track “Smooth Jazz Gone Straight,” and in a trio setting with the lovely and melancholy “Tears of Pain.” The CD includes an interview with the artist and an extended version of the cover tune, “Walk Da Walk." – Brian Soergel, Jazz Times
